**Front - heavy gage "rabbit" wire, we tacked on with a staplegun cut 3 pieces to fit each box front door 1 x 2 inch opening on wire
** Door is constructed with 1x1's
**3 panels bolt together to form one box & one front door
**Piano Hinge is used - cut and sand edges before installing- or you will have a hell of a time sanding the metal. Be sure and keep it WD-40ed. will rust.
**PVC T end fittings used for upright bar T at the top to connect Handles. Use Wire metal thingy from wiring department for middle support. (it's easier than a PVC fitting, believe me, see picture below for better view of the thingy)
This picture shows the tops - they are hanging open. Our Colors are
Red, Blue, Green, Purple, Black, Pink
We used these because collars are easily found in these colors. I hope that all UKC clubs will use these colors, then a handler only has to have one set of collars.to be better prepaired to race.
Bottom detail
After the boxes are all bolted together we add the bottom brace. this raises front of the box which helps with easy opening in grass.
Th Bottom brace is bolted to the assembled Boxes.
The tools we used was basically a table saw and an electric drill. If you don't have a table saw then ask at your local hardware store if they will cut the wood for you. Sometime they have a saw avalible to use.

Carpeting is rubber cemented to the bottom: Breath often or get a horrible headache... You have been warned!!!!
True Box Bottom
This view is of inside of one side of one box.
Notice all interier bracing.
Use "Gorilla Glue" and wood screws in construction. We used a drill to counter sink the screws so the wood would not split.

These type of bolts were used to hold the Front Door together too.
Note: Set of Bolts down here too
with this extra set of bolts you will not have any twisting with the box. This was a problem with us when we just tryed to latch them together.

This is called Racing Dirt
You will accumulate it
as you race the dogs
We vacume it out after an event
This shows the bottom brace and the safety latch released shortly before start of heat
This is one completed Box.
You need 3 boxes for a heat of 6 dogs.
Nobs are wood cheap at home depot.
Jumps are 1x1 and 2x4 construction, screwed togerther.
The most important part of the Jump is the angel which is 35 degrees. The 2 inch PVC pipes are actually 2 3/8 inch. so the angle takes out the extra height. With this angel you will achive 6 inches with 3 pipes.
8 inch with 4 pipes
12 inch with 6 pipes.

Front View with 6 inch jump loaded. Be sure and cut your pipe to the size of your track ours are 7 1/2 feet long
This is shown with short pvc pipes.
Side detail with 6" jump loaded. When assembled they are self standing. and will not interfer with the track barrier.
They are really quite light weight too.

A huge thanks need to be said to Member John Kleutsch for his design, engineerring and woodworking skills. John cut out the wood but Julia, Tasha and Barbara drilled, glued, screwed, and painted all of the assemble together. Don't let the boxes construction intimidate you. Do a club work party and have fun creating your boxes. It can be done! So go for it You will love to hear your pooches singing and howling to get into the box. After a few trys they will jump right into the box!
